Installation Problem – Groove to Groove

Q: I have laid out the engineered hardwood and started nailing down the floor. My room is a combo living and kitchen with a nook. I laid out the full length of the floor and everything is going good until I realize. I now have to go backwards into the nook and the tongue of the floor is now backwards and I cant nail it. So is there a splicer of some-kind ( a double tongue lets say ) that fits into the floor and allows you to turn the floor around so you can continue nailing.
A: What you are looking for is a slip tongue or spline. These are commonly made by many floor manufacturers and with a small bit of work you will be back on track. Just find a slip tongue or spline built for your floor (generic ones are made, just find one which will fit the groove of your floor), then use some tongue and groove glue, put a small bead of glue into the groove, put the spline in place and then do the same treatment to the next row. From here give the glue time to cure and finish nailing in the last of your planks into the nook.
