Cork in a Bath Room or Laundry Room

Cork in a Bath Room or Laundry Room — modern flooring photography

Q: Can I use cork in a laundry room? how about a bathroom?
Thanks,
Maureen Felman

A: Yes. Before you get too far though, let’s go over a few bits of information that will help ensure your floor stays in great shape.
With any wood floor you need to do your best to avoid places which are likely to have high amounts of moisture. As iFLOOR’s CEO, Steve, always say “wood and water do NOT mix,” but wood flooring, cork included, can be installed successfully and last for years in these environments.
The big tips here would be to never leave standing water or wet clothing/towels on the floor. Should a spill happen, clean it up asap as this will prevent water from getting into the seams of the floor. You can look into glue down cork with a site finish to help seal out moisture a bit better, but with today’s floating cork floors the locking mechanisms are designed for a fit which is as water tight as possible.
In the end here, just make sure to avoid excessive moisture on the floor and you should be able to have cork in these rooms without problem.
