Moving Tile – Glue?

Q: Help, I have a basement floor of a new house that I use to display antique cars. The floor is 4″ concrete with gravel then plastic under the concrete , the floor was sealed with a concrete sealer. I had Armstrong Imperial Texture put down with Armstrong S-515 glue. Now when a park a car on it the tile it slides and wrinkles up. I wonder if that was the best choice in glue?
Thanks,
John
A: Based on your description of what is happening, it sounds like the glue was not ready to receive the tile when it was laid. The particular adhesive you are using is a product that must be dry to touch or at least set to the point that it is not real tacky when the material is set. Its possible that too much adhesive was used when this product was installed or that the adhesive was not given enough curing time before the tile was laid, which could be causing the movement.
When this type of adhesive is laid the correct trowel is 1/32″ deep,1/16″ wide, 5/64″ apart but, if everything was followed per specs then maybe you got a hold of some mastic that has been exposed to sub freezing temperature. This adhesive is latex based and therefore not freeze thaw stable – so if it had frozen somewhat then thawed back out, the adhesive would lose its stability and never cure properly after all.
