I have now heard from several independent sources that customs according to the new harmonized tariff will be add an 8% duty to all bamboo (including solid). There are variations to this policy based on the precise construction type, however, the news is that solid bamboo is going up at least 8% immediately. I predict by the end of the year the China side of the equation will be increasing 6-12% based on reduced export incentives, currency pressure, government taxes on raw materials and VAT issues.

Expect higher prices. The downside is the consumer pays more, but none of it is a value add anywhere. We don’t get it, our suppliers don’t get it – the government gets it. Not value add.
